BUMBO - August 16th

Lately it's been more and more difficult to keep JJ entertained during the day, since he's awake for such long stretches of time. We really don't have any infant toys that he can play with by himself (meaning toys which don't require me sitting there, shaking it in front of his face). So I decided to buy a Bumbo seat for him.

A Bumbo seat is a rubbery sort of chair that babies can sit upright in as soon as their neck muscles are strong enough to support their head. So even though JJ can't sit upright on his own yet, he can sit in the Bumbo seat. I also bought an activity mat while I was at Target, and he seems to like that pretty well. I think he'll get more excited about both of these as he gets bigger/older, but for now it's nice to be able to put him down once in a while and not have to entertain him constantly. Don't get me wrong -- I don't intend on letting toys or TV and movies babysit him all day everyday, but my days with him are anywhere from 12-16 hours long (before Jeremy's home for the day) and I simply can't hold him throughout every one of his waking hours. These things just help when I need a break, not to mention that I think he enjoys the change of scenery and activity.

AND I can use the Bumbo seat and the activity mat together, if I sit him in front of the toys that are attached to the mat. He seemed to like that the most. Of course, eventually he gets bored of both the seat and the mat, but too much time doing any one thing makes him bored.

Be wary of the hours JJ is away from his Jack (in the box :))- that entertainment you provide could be building the foundation for "attention deficit disorder". Being constantly entertained forces a void in the conscious state of mind when Jack is missing and the constant baby bable brought on by the non-sense gooche gooche goo stuff can have a serious long term effect on the infants ability to cope with even short periods of non-activity.

In other words - don't listen to me if you want to raise your child correctly! Do what you think is right....

PS - I too have a bumbo - see previous post reference picture sent in response to the last posting.
