Automatic Sprinkler - July 29th

You can see from the picture to the right where I got the inspiration for the name of this post -- thanks to Jeremy's sister Niki for the adorable onesie! However the inspiration for the post itself came yesterday.

I was so proud of myself avoiding "the stream" for so long. It's been weeks since JJ managed to "get" me while I changed his diaper. Since the last time it happened I had resolved to be much more aware and alert during each diaper change and my efforts have been quite worthwhile up to this point. The only thing wet lately has been his diaper, which is always quickly replaced with a new, dry diaper and that's the way it should be. But all that changed yesterday.

I went to change JJ's diaper, which was soaked, and as usual I kept an eye on him, wary of the spontaneous stream that has been known to shoot up and hit everything in sight. But things seemed to be under control, and at some point during the diaper change the diaper needs to actually get changed. So after I cleaned him up, I took away the old diaper and slipped the new one under him. And that's when it happened. My little JJ is quite the opportunist, as he took advantage of the half-second he was completely uncovered and emptied his bladder all over me, the dresser, and even himself. So I cleaned him up again and finshed changing the diaper -- successfully this time.

Later in the day I went to change him again, and this time I was prepared. I made sure to pay even closer attention and make sure that everything (and everyone) stayed dry. Well, I was successful to a degree. I got the new diaper on him just fine, but once it was on him, he SOAKED it. No problem. I quickly and efficiently removed the wet diaper, swapped it for a clean one, and closed it up. And then... he soaked it AGAIN! Now, I really don't mind changing diapers at all, despite the fact that I thought I was really going to hate changing every single diaper. It's really not that big of a deal, and it's really not difficult. I've gotten quite used to doing it, since I change so many diapers every day and all night. But when you change three diapers in the course of one diaper-changing session, it gets pretty frustrating. Not to mention that I had no idea a baby could produce that much urine that quickly.

In any case, this time after I changed him, he stayed dry. At least until the next diaper change. So when I needed to pick another onsie for him to wear, this one was a no-brainer. Now if only we can figure out how to hook him up to the lawn and get him to spray clean water...

Hahaha...that's priceless!!! John and Matthew have both gotten me. But then I wised up and always had an extra diaper covering them while I was in the process of changing...I call this the shield method. As I am not a mother, I don't know that it is 100% fool-proof, but I can say that it was effective for me!
